Delhi government considering to take over seven MCD hospitals

New Delhi: The Delhi government is reportedly considering to take over the Delhi Municipal Corporation’s seven hospitals even as both the sides on Thursday held talks to end the impasse over the issue of paying salaries to the municipal employees whose strike entered the ninth day.

The government’s move came a day after the Municipal Corporation Doctors’ Association submitted a representation to the government requesting it to consider taking over the reins of the health services (barring public health) of the fund-strapped civic corporations, reports The Tribune.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has six major hospitals — Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, Kasturba Hospital, Girdhari Lal Maternity Hospital, Maharishi Valmiki Infectious Diseases Hospital, Balak Ram Hospital and Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis. The East Delhi Municipal Corporation has a major hospital, Swami Dayanand Hospital, in Shahdara.
