One of the Class-XI Biology students who did a project work on ‘Pedigree analysis in coronary artery disease’ at our centre, the National Heart Institute, New Delhi, got admission in Turin University, Italy in 1917. This is her 3rd year now. She was posted with a nursing staff to get a flavour of dynamics of wards. Quite appreciating her speaking ability, the student was picked by the Dean of the school to deliver a lecture to Class XII students and motivate them for joining medicine after passing XII.
Compare this scenario from our situation. Our academicians will frown upon such venture. Why waste time on asking them to lecture Class-XII students. I had a taste of it when we started ‘Student Health Lecture’ in 2013 at HIMSR Jamia Hamdard. Some people told to higher ups that he is wasting time on such lectures. What is the fun of lecturing class 9th or 10th students on health? Sure enough we continued this effort and have been doing this without taking any financial support from any source (Photo 2). Thanks to my old HIMSR and NHI colleagues. Not only that we have brought out a book on ‘School Health’.
After getting the WhatsApp message from our former project student, I am emboldened to share this with all my colleagues to do our bit to our society and enlighten them on the ‘Importance of Healthy Lifestyle’.
